Where we eat, which beaches we love, and how to get around the island.
The places we go back to. Three of them are close enough to walk to. The rest of the south coast is a short taxi ride, and the east and west coast make a good day out.
Friday night = Oistins ;-)
Cafe Luna
A rooftop five minutes from the house. Go at sunset.
Surfers Cafe, Oistins
Fish tacos, and live music on Sunday.
Oistins Fish Fry
The fish market turns into one big party on Friday evening.
Epic Surf Cafe
On Maxwell Main Road. Amazing acai and smoothie bowls and good coffee, the perfect breakfast after an early surf.
Deia Beach
A chic beach club and restaurant on Maxwell Beach, a short ride along the south coast.
Rebell Burger Bar
In Dover, St Lawrence Gap. Proper burgers, open from 11 until they sell out. Bring cash.
The Tiki Bar
On Accra Beach in Rockley. Rum cocktails, some served in a coconut, with your feet almost in the sand.
ArtSplash Cafe
Walk in, no booking. Closes at 2pm, so go for breakfast or lunch.
Surfers Bay
The beach bar at Silver Sands, right by the kite spot.
Cuz's Fish Shack
A little stand at the north end of Pebbles Beach in Carlisle Bay. Order a fish cutter: fresh fried fish in a bread roll, with cheese or egg if you like and a dash of local pepper sauce.
Eco Lodge and Sea View Bar
Bathsheba, on the wild east coast.
Peg Farm
A farm table on the east coast.
Sea Shed
On the beach at Mullins, west coast.
Local & Co.
In Speightstown, up the west coast.
Brighton Farmers Market
One of those small finds we love.
La Cabane
A beach bar and restaurant under the trees on Batts Rock Beach, just north of Bridgetown. Swim first, then lunch.
The Lone Star and QP Bistro
Two west coast tables for a long lunch or a dinner out.
Freights is at the end of our road and Miami Beach a four minute walk. The little village of Oistins, with its busy fish market, is within walking distance too.
Miami Beach
A four minute walk from the house.
Silver Sands
A couple of kilometres down the coast, home of the kite and wind spots.
Pebbles Beach
On Carlisle Bay, near Bridgetown. Calm water for swimming and snorkelling over the shipwrecks in the bay. Go early and you may see racehorses from the Garrison taking their morning swim.
Batts Rock Beach
A quiet little beach on the west coast, just north of Bridgetown. Snorkel around the flat rocks, then sit down at La Cabane. Stay for the catamarans heading home at sunset.
Bottom Bay
On the south east coast, worth the drive.
Foul Bay
On the south east coast in St Philip, a short drive past the airport. Hawksbill turtles nest on this beach.
Barbados Golf Club is close to the house.
Trails around Bathsheba and the east coast, for a walk or a trail run with a view on the Atlantic.
St Lawrence Gap for bars and live music after dinner.
On foot you reach Miami Beach, Freights and Oistins. To explore the rest of the island you really need a car. The airport is twenty minutes away, and a taxi costs about $30.
Drive on the left!
